Federico Rubi

Bio

Federico Rubi (Buenos Aires, 1985) is a visual artist. He lives and works in La Pampa. He trained as a Visual Arts teacher at CONSUDEC and studied for a BA in Fine Arts at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA). He has undertaken mentorships with Leila Tschopp, Verónica Gómez, and the ABELE program, and currently participates in a writing workshop led by Claudio Iglesias.
His practice centers on painting, where he explores states of indeterminacy and constructs scenes that are both fragmentary and narrative, shaped by the dreamlike and the affective.
His solo exhibitions include Vivir! (Atocha Galería, Buenos Aires, 2024) and Música (LAR, Buenos Aires, 2022). He has participated in group exhibitions at Linse Galería, LAR, Espacios PH, and other institutions.
He received the Fondo Nacional de las Artes Creation Grant (2021 and 2022) and the Gestionar Futuro Grant (2023). He was selected for the Salón Nacional de Rosario and the Fundación OSDE Prize (2025).
In February 2026, he participated in the Alberto Heredia Residency at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires.

Statement

Indeterminacy is always present as a theme—what never fully takes shape, or what is made of several things at once. I am interested in telling truncated stories: the effort to say something and being unable to, as if words won’t come out of the mouth—like in a dream, or when the Little Mermaid loses her voice.
There is also mystery, though not as a theme or atmosphere; rather, it is the mystery of looking at oneself and not understanding—that initial fascination. I paint from these sensations and thoughts, at times more mental and neurotic, and at others more spontaneous. They are like two cups I keep at hand; sometimes I can mix them, and that is when the most intense moment emerges.
